“ASPECTS OF NATURE” by Brian Unsworth

Members  of the society were treated to a slide show presentation by Brian Unsworth showing quirky aspects of nature that have enthused him to continue to take wonderful photographs over the years.

Photos of local scenes showed effects of light and shade, we observed the effects that light at different times of day affected the finished result:  hoar frost and snow, winter sunlight and fading daylight all illustrated theses contrasts.

His immense patience in obtaining photographs of his wildlife subjects were seen in his photographs of a kingfisher amongst sand martins’ nest holes, a crow nest high up on a telegraph pole, the nest fashioned unbelievably from barbed wire!  There were photographs of a willow warbler feeding slugs to its chicks, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, shy owls and striking Sparrow hawks and many other delights.

Close-ups of moths, ladybirds and other insets took into yet another different world and finally, we saw nature in all its colourful glory as he demonstrated the colours of the changing seasons and the evening sunsets.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all, enhanced even further by refreshments afterwards and a tasting of a new mead products now on sale in the Towneley Hall shop
