KATIE GRANT EVENING with BUFFET
Once again Katie Grant entertained us with tales of her childhood at the Towneley home of Dyneley in Cliviger and of her rise to the ranks of newspaper journalist and authoress.
Her children’s book “How the Hangman Lost His Heart” was inspired by tales of her ancestor, Francis Towneley who, for his support of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, was executed and be-headed, his head being placed on Temple Bar in London for many years before being rescued and brought back to Burnley, She confessed that many of the characters she had created for her books were based on family members – and she shared many of the amusing anecdotes from the past that so inspire her story-telling.
Afterwards drinks and a hot buffet were enjoyed in the Green Room by all the members present at this special occasion.
