Chetham’s Library, Manchester

We flashed our bus passes and headed for Manchester -

Chetham’s building dates from the second quarter of the fifteenth century and the Cloister Corridors, The Audit Room,  The Baronial Hall and the Library with its Reading Room all had a magnificent ambiance - it is the most complete medeival complex to survive in the North West of England.  Our guide, informative and enthusiastic took us through the ages from the priests in 1421 to the present day.

A wonderful visit.

.... And, finally, (especially for Rita), the devil’s  hoof print!

 

The famous oval burn mark on the Audit Room table which is said to be the hoof print of the devil, conjured up one dark Manchester night by Dr Dee’s magic arts!
